Running a table tennis tournament
Tables set the capacity
A best-of-five match to 11 takes about 20 to 30 minutes. With 6 tables and 25-minute slots, you can play about 14 matches an hour. The number of tables matters more than the size of the hall.
Groups of three to five
The most common format is groups of 3 to 5 players, with the top two going through to the knockout bracket. Ties on points are broken by the head-to-head result, then by games and points. The app works it out for you.
Results straight from the tables
Amateur tournaments rarely have an umpire at every table, so players keep score themselves. If you give helpers access to the tournament, they can enter results from their phones right at the tables.
