Running a handball tournament
Match length
Adult competitive handball is played over 2 × 30 minutes; tournaments play 2 × 10 to 2 × 15 minutes. Youth teams play shorter halves depending on age. Leave at least 5 minutes between matches for teams to change over.
7-metre throws in the knockout stage
A drawn knockout match is decided by 7-metre throws: under the rules, 5 throws per team followed by one each until there is a winner. To save time, tournaments often go to throws straight after normal time without extra time.
Mini handball across the hall
The youngest age groups play mini handball on a smaller court set up across the width of the hall. That gives you several courts side by side in one hall, each with its own column in the schedule.
