Running a futsal tournament
Running time, not stopped time
Competitive futsal is played over 2 × 20 minutes of stopped time, which is too long for a tournament. Tournaments usually play 2 × 10 minutes of running time or a single 15-minute half.
One court per sports hall
A standard sports hall fits one futsal court. With 20-minute matches and five minutes to change over, you can play about 19 matches in eight hours. Eight teams in a single round robin means 28 matches, so split them into two groups of four and finish with a knockout bracket, 16 matches in total.
Shoot-outs and footwear
A drawn knockout match is decided by a shoot-out from the penalty mark, usually 3 players per team followed by sudden death. Remind teams to bring indoor shoes with non-marking soles, as many halls will not allow anything else.
