Running a basketball tournament
Running or stopped time
The default 4 × 8 minutes is a shortened version of the competitive 4 × 10. With stopped time, a match takes roughly twice as long as the playing time. Tournaments therefore often run the clock and only stop it in the final minute.
Overtime instead of draws
Basketball has no draws, not even in the group stage. A tied game goes to overtime, which is 5 minutes under the rules, but 2 to 3 minutes is enough at a tournament. Leave some slack between matches so overtime does not push back the whole day.
Two cross courts or 3x3
Larger halls often have side baskets as well as the main court, so you can play across the hall on two courts. If you have a lot of teams, consider 3x3 on one basket, played for 10 minutes or to 21 points.
