Running a badminton tournament
Scoring and match length
Matches are best of three games to 21 points. At 20 all, a player must lead by 2 points, up to a maximum of 30. A match usually takes 30 to 45 minutes.
Courts in the hall
A standard school gym fits 2 to 3 courts, and a large sports hall fits more. With 3 courts and 40-minute slots, you can play about 27 matches in 6 hours.
Singles, doubles and shuttles
Set up singles, doubles and mixed doubles as separate tournaments, so each event has its own schedule and tables. Feather shuttles are expensive and wear out quickly, so amateur tournaments often use plastic ones.
